Meals on Wheels Honored in Best of the Upstate Awards

Meals on Wheels of Greenville was awarded Best Fundraising Event at the yearly Best of the Upstate awards, put on by The Greenville News.

The award came in recognition of Meals on Wheels’ two fundraising events, the Sweetheart Charity Ball and the Wheels for Meals Charity Ride. Between these two events, more than 78,000 meals were provided for the homebound in 2016.

“It’s very rewarding to be recognized for the hard work our team puts into planning our annual fundraising events,” said Julie Accetta, Director of Community Relations at Meals on Wheels of Greenville.

The annual Best of the Upstate Awards by The Greenville News celebrates achievements in the region. This year’s awards were held at the Huguenot Mill Loft at the Peace Center with 350 in attendance and recognized achievements in 246 categories.

The Best of the Upstate awards voting was held over a two week period, with more than 600,000 votes submitted.

“We are extremely lucky to have a supportive and generous community that recognizes the importance of giving back to provide meals for the homebound in Greenville County,” says Accetta.

Meals on Wheels of Greenville has been serving the community since 1968, serving 1,500 meals a day and delivering over 11 million meals in its lifespan.
