Business Black Box Awards

BBB16_Awards_logoHere at Business Black Box, we like celebrating success. And so we thought, “What could be better than celebrating those in the Upstate business community who really moved the needle to impact our region and, in many cases, the world?”

From that idea, the Business Black Box Annual Awards event was born.

It’s not yet another awards event—and we don’t do it to backdoor revenue by selling tables and advertising to a special section. We don’t believe in pay-to-play and think that the best people to win these awards are the ones who actually deserve it. We recognize Upstate, Charleston, and SC business leaders every year based on the nominations sent in by you, our readers across the state.

Nominations are closed for this year, but make a note of who you’d like to nominate next year for each of the categories below:

For some going to work is a chore but for others, each day is a new adventure. Whether your workplace is a cubicle, a corner office in a hi-rise or flexible enough to change each day, this award is for your company. If your work doesn’t really feel like “work,” you’ve found a great business or organization to be a part of and we want to hear about it.

For most, giving back and improving the local community is a great thing to do. For some Upstate businesses, it is an integral part of their company culture. Businesses large and small are having a positive impact on our community each day through the volunteering of their employees’ time, participating in fundraising or giving annual contributions to those in need. This award is for those companies that can look beyond their bottom line and see the needs of those outside of their four walls.

Although there has been much debate about the “nature vs. nurture” of leadership abilities, one thing is for certain: leaders that are truly great have passion, drive, and an unshakable will to succeed.  This award is for those that are emerging as the leaders of tomorrow—ages 30 and under—not for personal gain or for recognition, but because they see an opportunity to blaze a new path and aren’t afraid a little hard work on the way to achieving their goals.

Starting a new business is not for the faint of heart—the long hours, dedication and capacity for handling stress required for a successful start-up can be a disastrous cocktail for most. This award recognizes those individuals that embody the entrepreneurial spirit—having taken big risks in hopes of making their vision become a reality.

There are bosses that go the extra mile to help their staff; there are bosses that strive to make office culture a top priority; and there are bosses that encourage leadership and growth along the way. So whether your boss is a community servant, a “gung-ho encourager”, or simply the best leader around, this award is for them.
