The Darla Moore Foundation today announced a $5 million gift to Florence Darlington Technical College—the largest gift of its kind ever to a S.C. technical college.

Calling education “the greatest equalizer,” the move was revealed by Marion Fowler, President and CEO of the Darla Moore Foundation.

“Florence Darlington Technical College has played a vital role to provide education to studetns in the Pee Dee,” he said, noting that the gift would help the school continue to provide a skilled workforce and help boost the region’s economic efforts.

The gift will go to a number of projects. Firstly, to create a culinary and hospitality program at the Lake City campus of Florence Darlington Technical College, but also to provide students in Lake City with scholarships, grants and loans.

“Florence Darlington not only helps provide basic job opportunities,” said Fowler, “but they also go to the other end of the spectrum with teaching cutting edge technology.”
